Northwest Airlines
Domestic Medical/Bereavement Fare Policy
|
| Effective
December 13, 2005, Northwest Airlines will require a WorldPerks number in
a reservation for the customer to be eligible for discounted one way and
roundtrip emergency fares for travel within the 50 U.S. and Canada when
travel is due to the hospitalization or death of an immediate family
member. Immediate family members are defined as spouse, domestic
partners, children (including adopted children), parent, brother, sister,
grandparent, grandchild (any step/adoptped/half/in-law versions),
great-grandparent, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle.
Membership in any other frequent flyer
program will not qualify customers for a domestic medical/bereavement
fare.

Airline Ticket Cost:
Tickets are generally 50 to 70 percent off the regular full-coach fare.
Eligibility:
Discounted fares are available for immediate family - generally a spouse,
parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, in-laws, aunt, uncle, niece and
nephew (but not always cousins).
Restrictions:
Some airlines require you to use the
tickets within seven days of purchase. Northwest gives you 72 hours.
Proof:
At the time of reservation, agents will ask for the name of the deceased or ill
person, your relationship to him or her and contact information for the funeral
home or hospital. Some airlines ask for this information at any time
before your return flight; American requires it before you board the plane.
Frequent Fliers:
Some airlines may waive restrictions such
as blackout dates if you are using miles in the United States to get to the
funeral of a close relative.
